Aftercare Advice

After getting your tattoo leave the dressing on for anywhere between 2 and 8 hours, but no longer. A dressing is put on to stop any bacteria or foreign bodies getting into the tattoo after it is initially done.

As soon as the dressing is taken off wash the tattoo with some anti-bacterial soap and warm water, don’t use anything to scrub the tattoo whilst washing it just use a clean hand. After you have cleaned your new tattoo, pat it dry with a clean towel or cloth.

When your tattoo is clean and dry leave it for around 12-24 hours to get some air to it and dry out, when it starts to feel tight and dry use small amounts of cream 2 to 3 times a day to moisturise your tattoo. It is best to use a specific tattoo ointment such as Tattoo Goo or Black Cat, which are sold by us.

After a few days to a week into the healing process you will get slight flaking of the skin or scabbing on the tattooed area, this is perfectly normal. Never pick or Scratch your tattoo at any time, this can cause infection and prolong the healing process, and also draw ink out of the skin.  Apply cream to the tattoo as normal, and continue to clean the tattoo 2 times a day with soap and water until all scabs and flaking skin have gone. This usually takes around 2 weeks, but it can take up to 6 weeks for the skin to get completely back to normal.

Try to avoid soaking your new tattoo in warm water for around 2 weeks after your tattoo is applied, try to have showers not baths.  This also includes any kind of swimming pool, sea, lake etc. not just because of the water but the bacteria, which may be present and could lead to your tattoo becoming infected.  Keep your new tattoo completely out of direct sunlight at all times during the healing process.
